Specifically, students in this program will learn the basics of CPR, including:
- Proper CPR technique on adults, children and infants
- Treating bleeding, sprains and broken bones
- General first aid
- Workplace safety
Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professionals
Basic life support (BLS) classes are designed for healthcare professionals. These courses educate individuals on recognizing life-threatening emergencies, performing quality chest compressions, delivering appropriate ventilations and using an automated external defibrillator (AED). All these techniques are centered around adults, children and infants.
Some broad categories a Florida BLS certification includes are:
- Rapid evaluation and visual assessments
- Airway obstruction and choking relief
- Critical thinking and problem-solving
- Teamwork and effective communication
Additional CPR Course Options
In addition to the building block CPR courses, Lifework Education provides more advanced options for nurses, doctors and others in the healthcare industry:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS): ACLS courses build on BLS fundamentals. Specifically, ACLS emphasizes high-quality CPR, team dynamics, airway management and emergency pharmacology.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): PALS focuses on CPR care for children and infants. This course teaches how to recognize cardiac arrest in children and the skills needed to provide life-sustaining care.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP): NRP teaches healthcare professionals how to properly resuscitate newborns in critical care. Individuals who take this course often serve on the resuscitation team in delivery rooms.
