EMT Skills Verification Course Description
EMTs must be prepared for a variety of patient emergencies. To ensure you are up-to-date with the latest techniques and technology, Lifework Education covers the following skills in our competency verification test:

A Look Inside the Verification Process
There are several steps you can take to simplify the application and exam process for your EMT recertification skills test. You must first complete the correct EMT verification form before the skills test. After passing the competency exam, you can receive your verification.
1. Complete the EMT Skills Verification Form
Testing EMTs must complete the EMT Skills Verification Form (EMSA-SCV 01/17), whether you are reinstating or renewing your EMT certification. Submit this form with your application.
2. Verify Skills Competency
For the skills portion, a certified or licensed medical professional will directly observe you in an actual or simulated patient contact. Our friendly instructors come from various medical backgrounds, including EMTs, EMT-II, paramedics, registered nurses, physician assistants or physicians.
3. Receive Verification of Competency
This skills competency verification meets the following requirements set forth by Santa Clara County EMS Agency:

Skills competency shall be verified by direct observation of an actual or simulated patient contact. Skills competency shall be verified by an individual who is currently certified or licensed as an EMT, EMT-II, Paramedic, Registered Nurse, Physician's Assistant, or Physician and who shall be designated by an EMS approved training program (EMT training program, paramedic training program or CE provider) or an EMS service provider; EMS service providers include, but are not limited to public safety agencies, private ambulance providers and other EMS providers. Verification of skills competency shall be valid for a maximum of two (2) years for the purpose of applying for recertification.
Who Needs EMT Verification?
Our EMT Skills Test course in San Jose, CA, is for current EMT students who have successfully passed their EMT or paramedic training course or current EMTs and paramedics who need their EMT Skills verified by a certified or licensed training provider.
Skills competency verification is valid for a maximum of two years to apply for recertification. This time frame reflects Santa Clara County's priority of maintaining up-to-date skills and complying with EMS Agency requirements.
How to Register for the EMT Competency Assessment
Before the skills portion, you must complete the necessary documentation, including the verification form and application. If you are applying for recertification, you must submit your application by midnight on the day your certification expires.
