Basic EKG Course Description
This 1 day classroom-based, Facilitator-led course in EKG Interpretation is designed to improve electrocardiogram (EKG) recognition and interpretation skills for healthcare providers working with monitored patients.
EKG monitoring is becoming more common in inpatient and outpatient care settings as well as emergency and critical care areas. Nurses and other healthcare professionals are responsible for cardiac patients including monitoring and interpreting cardiac dysrhythmias. They must develop the critical thinking skills required to quickly and accurately identify potentially life threatening conditions.
This comprehensive EKG course is designed for those healthcare professionals wishing to enhance their level of education to include anatomy and physiology of the cardiac system, EKG electrode placement, and recognition of lethal and non-lethal dysrhythmias and identification of myocardial infarctions.
In this EKG Course you will learn:
- Normal cardiac physiology and function
- How electrical conduction in the heart affects muscle contraction
- Ways that the heart compensates for ineffective conduction
- All of the major dysrhythmias, possible causes and usual treatment (if warranted)
- How to quickly recognize lethal ones and how to treat them
- Basic pacemaker strategies
